Workshop description:
Studying abroad poses a challenge to the cultural frame of reference of the incoming exchange students. Being able to read the culture of their host country will help students to make the most of their stay in Germany.
Goal: Provide cultural orientation without falling into the trap of cliché
Workshop content:
- Self-reflection about the participants’ cultures of origin
- Attempts at defining culture
- Raising awareness for cultural differences, human similarities and the danger of stereotypes
- The ‘German way’: aspects of behavior, attitudes, and customs in Germany and Bavaria
- Brief overview of German and Bavarian history and its influence on culture
